Sea Sniper was originally founded in 2003 by freedivers Chay Ochoa, Chris Chaput, and Daniel Van Huysteen in the San Francisco Bay Area. Their mission was to provide innovative products to the worldwide spearfishing community. It was when Daniel passed away suddenly in 2013 that we began honoring him with an annual friendly tournament here at Sea Sniper Baja. This year’s event included sixteen participants, lots of good memories, big fish, and raising money for his children’s college fund.
2018 DVH Invitational
Here’s what Danny Clark Jr. had to say about 2018’s event:
Another DVH tournament honoring one of Sea Sniper’s closest friends came to an end last weekend. I’m humbled every year that I receive an invitation to this event. I didn’t know Daniel, but the stories of him that I do know and the fact that his friends honor him with a spearfishing Tournament in Baja every year shows us that he touched the hearts of everyone around him. The memories and friendships that are made during these trips will last us a lifetime. The photos that we have will take us back for a brief moment in time and in that moment, that fraction of a second, we are back in Baja diving with Manta Rays, swimming with turtles and Whale Sharks, driving down dusty, dirt roads in the back of beat up pickup trucks and sitting around the fish cleaning station, telling stories of the fish that got away. All of this is what makes The DVH what it is. This is Sea Sniper Baja. This is spearfishing with the Sea Sniper crew. This is The DVH! Thanks for everything @seasniper_baja and their incredible crew and thank you to @sea_sniper_llc for including me once again. I’m already looking forward to next year!
