Come enjoy these beautiful waters with us!

¡Hola from El Sargento!

While walking Sophie on our long sandy beach this morning, we couldn’t help but marvel at the sheer beauty surrounding us. As many of you know, La Ventana Bay is breath-taking when that sun comes up out of the water and spreads color all around us. With the recent rains, the desert has come alive with green, green, green. You can barely see the sand between the shrubs and there are beautiful little flowers of many colors everywhere in sight. It all makes us very aware of how lucky we are to live in this awesomeness ~ and to be able to share it with so many of you!

The summer flew by. We were busy (siesta-ing in the hottest part of the day ;)) putting the finishing touches on our new rooms and preparing for the coming season. We are happy to be able to provide better accommodations for our guests and are looking forward to hosting families as well as ‘lady’ friends in the coming months.

We were fortunate that Manuel didn’t hit the peninsula and are sending out heartfelt good wishes to all of those on the mainland who are dealing with the devastation that storm created.

This year’s Thetis Bank trips are full (one spot has opened up in the first week, Oct 27-Nov 3) and we are stoked to have all you fun guys signed up for the adventure. If you are part of the group, you will be receiving an email shortly with all the details about how to make it the best experience. If you didn’t get signed up this time, just know that we will be doing it again next year and would love to have you come along.

I’ll close by again saying thanks to all of you for the support you have given us over the years.
Ciao for now,
Linda & Chay

Now for the Fish Report!

Okay, I know you guys haven’t heard from me for the last couple months. Just remember, when you don’t hear from me it is because I don’t have time for the computer and I am out there having a blast fishing. For the last two months, it has been about exploring new areas on both sides of the peninsula.

It was amazing spending a few days diving what I call Cochi Rock, about 23 miles N/W of Thetis Bank, (without a wetsuit because the water was so warm and clear!). I was swimming with several Whale Sharks, schools of small Tunas and of course huge numbers of Groupers, while trying to shoot Wahoo & Yellowtail. First time I have seen such schools of monster Huachinangos. And I’m not kidding, each fish in those schools was between eight and twelve pounds! An experience I will never forget.

Still_11Getting closer to the coast on a different trip, I was reassured that the Groupers are in for the next couple of months.

The Cerralvo area has been producing solid action on the Dorados and Striped Marlin, with tons of bait in the water, clear and warm with occasional wind. Commercially the guys have been catching Humboldt Squid, and we have been using that as our primary chum. Good population of Wahoo are present on the north side of the island.

Now… for years I have been talking about the big tunas that visit our local waters. Finally I put some time to check areas where the fish have been reported by some of my local fishermen friends. The results were beyond my expectations!
